We moved our family to Richardson, TX in 1969 and, although we divorced in 1979, Richardson was a great place to raise my children and make my home. Retired in April 2007 after 17 years as Administrative Assistant to VP of Sales for a world leader in test and measurement equipment for the telecommunications industry. I enjoy traveling with friends, and I travel to Florida to play with my three-year-old granddaughter about four times a year. Reading, gardening, church activities, and genealogy research fill my spare time. John
William Martinez |
Obituary . MIDLAND Dr. John William Martinez, a former educator who held various educational posts in Texas ranging from teacher to director of bilingual education, returned to his celestial home on Monday, October 1, 2012. He was 71. Having grown up in Odessa, the majority of his time in education was spent in Midland. Humble, he always tried to play down his contributions whether they were intellectual, social, spiritual, or familial. He will be remembered for his humor, his inquisitiveness, and his devotion. John was preceded in death by his parents, Estanislado and Elidia Martinez. He is survived by his loving wife, Corine Martinez of Midland; his two sons, Javier Martinez of Houston, Texas, and John Anthony Martinez and wife, Michelle of Uvalde, Texas; two brothers, Rodolfo Martinez of Mesquite, Texas, and Robert Martinez of Plano, Texas. John is also survived by two grandchildren, Anabella Martinez and Alejandra Martinez, both of Uvalde; numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and cousins. The Funeral mass was held Thursday, October 4, 2012. Monsignor James Bridges presided. Funeral service was under the direction of Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home and Chapel. Update 10/15/2012 |

My first husband was Frank Greenlee. Actually, he is still my "First" husband. We celebrated 48 years in Dec, 2008. One son, David. He has three children, lives in Bryan. His wife is an Aggie. He drives a FedEx truck (was a police officer for several years). Two of his children have blessed us with three great grandchildren. One daughter, Cecelia Greenlee Harris. She and her husband live in Waco. She has a son in the Air Force (stationed in Anchorage) and a son in St. Augustine, FL. No great grandchildren from either of them yet. We moved back to Central Texas in August, 2007. We are enjoying sleeping in, getting up early, staying up late, going to bed early and working in our yard and garden. Visiting with our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren is about the most exciting thing we do. At least, it is the busiest thing we do since the little ones are 5, 2 and 1 year old. We plan to spend some time fishing also. I am most happy to say that my son and daughter have been the greatest joys of my life and their children are following along in a close second. I have learned that life is worth the living and that every day we have is a precious gift from God to invest (not just spend ) in dong what He has for us to do. Frank is from the San Diego, CA area and was in the Marine Corps until 1969. I have always said that we spent 8 years in the Marine Corps. We spent several years in Kentucky while he attended Asbury College. We moved back to Texas and he finished his degree at Howard Payne University in Brownwood. He went back to college in 1983 and got his elementary ed teaching certificate and taught school until we retired in May, 2007. I only received a PHT (putting hubby through)degree, but I learned a lot about sociology and psychology typing his papers for him. I worked at the college in Kentucky for 8 years, then started work at a bank in Brownwood. Stayed in banking 30 years and retired in 2007. Update 04/19/10.

In the 2004 update, I was anticipating my first grandchild. Jackson Montgomery arrived 2 days after Christmas. Sept. 24, 2005 my daughter Lorna married Radamez Casillas, one of those California transplants which is OK because my relatives moved there. Their son Aidan Cole was born July 9, 2007. Two days before Christmas 2007, Julian and Kathy had their second son William McClain (my mother's maiden name). I've been privileged to have Aidan so close. This week they moved into their new home about 3.6 miles away. I kept Aidan 2 days a week through November last year, so he plays on the piano and watches and dances during "So you think you can dance". I don't get to see Jackson and William nearly enough. All three boys are adorable (of course) but not similar. The week before Aidian was born, on July 3, I had my thyroid removed. Despite radioactive iodine 2 or 3 years before, it was still overactive. I didn't really have symptoms but did have nodules that can become cancer. Wish I had the hyperactive thyroid back or is this getting older. They let me crash before starting the thyroid medicine, and my computer had crashed in May, so I fell even further behind in life and have decided I'll never get caught up. Five years since the move and boxes wait to be unpacked and pictures to be hung. Since Lorna had Aidan and Ryan refuses to fly, I've been traveling alone--Canada, Mass., Vermont, Hawaii, Mexico--usually 3 times a year. This year was a disaster until Lorna said a new year was starting with my birthday July 22. Among all the not good things, the worst was losing 2 of our kitties. Our older Cocoa surprised us by living 18 years despite all her ailments. Baby Boy, only 8 and gone in 3 days, was a heartbreaking shock. No travel so far this year, and I'm afraid, my knees need something before another trip. So if any of you would like to travel using a timeshare, give me a call. Not into theater in Austin the way I was in Dallas. I go to art galleries, the East Austin Artist Tour, Architect's tour of homes, and other fun Austin events. Love it here, just miss Dallas family, artists, actors, and theater. I still own MAXI and MINI STORAGES in Odessa and have the same great manager. Keep thinking I'll find time to sell Medicare Supplements or Advantage to someone except myself so I just completed Continuing Ed again--should be grandfathered after this year. Update 08/18/09.
